LIIAR analysis
Language: The main colour scheme Is apparent through the cover of this magazine, The masthead and some of the other text are both bright blue matching the collar of the model's jumper. With the other font either pink or black. This breaks conventions of RnB because you wouldn't usually associate blue and pink with RnB but maybe pop, RnB colours would usually be black, red, green, grey not bright colours. Especially as the the model is a male. The main image of the model is covering part of the masthead making the picture dominant. He is looking straight at the camera, engaging the audience, he isn't showing any emotion which may also be associated with RnB music as opposed to pop because pop music would probably be 'happy' and 'upbeat' The model's name is in bold text to the left of his head indicating to the audience who he is and that he is a RnB artist.
Ideology: The ideology of this magazine is to attract their target audience, people interested in RnB/hip-hop music by using bright colours it attracts the audience when the magazine is on the shelf over any other music magazine. The blues and the pinks indicate that the magazine is targeted at both male and females even though the model on the front is a male. The name 'vibe' also is appropriate for a music magaizine because its like the 'vibe of the music' and with soul and RnB the saying 'good vibes' like positive attitudes and good music.
Insitution: Vibe magazine is a US music and entertainment magazine founded by producer Quincy Jones. The publication predominantly featuresR&B and hip-hop music artists, actors and other entertainers. After shutting down production in Summer 2009, Vibe was purchased by the private equity investment fund InterMedia Partners and is now issued every-other month with double covers, with a larger online presence. The magazine's target demographic is predominantly young, urban followers of hip-hop culture. In 2014, the magazine moved online-only.[2]
The magazine owed its success to featuring a broader range of interests than its closest competitors The Source andXXL which focus more narrowly on rap music, or the rock & pop-centric Rolling Stone and Spin. As of June 30, 2012,Vibe has a circulation of 300,943, of which 202,439 was paid, and 98,504 was non paid.[3] Advertisers ran the gamut from record labels to fashion houses to various cognac brands.

Audience: The target audience for this magazine is mostly teenagers aged 14-18 its not like a pop/charts magazine for a younger audience with bright colours, a lot of fonts, free gifts ect. its more mature and aimed at older teenagers interested in RnB and hip hop music.

Language: The whole page is grey scale except the heart which is red making it stand out. The model is stood looking straight into the camera showing now emotion just like the front cover image, reinforcing the 'RnB image' The model has a female's hand reaching over to his heart and holding a red 'heart' this could connote the 'RnB' image further, because he is a rapper it could mean he raps a lot about being a 'heart breaker' or a 'player' and that he doesn't have any emotions or any sympathy for women's feelings or he is a bit of a ladies man so women are always trying to 'steal his heart. The V in the background is to represent V for Vibe the name of the magazine, instead of writing out vibe again they have just used the first letter and put it behind the image of the artist on the front cover. The word contents is laid out usually, instead of just saying contents across the top its only in the top right corner. The pages are split into two categories 'features' which will be the main stories on the front page and all of the main stories in the magazine then the second category 'fashion' which unusual because its a music magazine but it obviously appeals to other audiences and trys to attract other audiences.

My Music Genre
I have chosen RnB for my music genre, I wanted to do something different ton what I did last year when I took the course, last year I chose pop and made a pop music magazine and although I enjoy pop music i found it very hard to make my magazine reflect the pop genre because I realised I would have to make everything bright and stand out to reflect the pop genre which i found really hard. so I decided becasue I like RnB music as well I would chose RnB for my music magazine as i noticed the main connotations of RnB music is black and red clothes, red lipstick, red and black nail varnish, leather, gold chains, diamonds/diamantes, caps, heels, studs and big headphones.

Evaluation Questions
What have you learnt from this task? This is my second time of doing this process as I am redoing the course so this gave me a slight advantage as I knew what to expect and knew how to complete the task efficiently, however I have learnt to manage my time better this time round and have found it easier to get tasks done in a sufficient time. I have also learnt a few more things about Photoshop for example I took the picture for my front cover against a white background so instead of cutting the model out of the background and putting her on the blank page I learnt to change the opacity of just the background and not the model and make her against a completely white background which saved me some time. Also when doing my draft contents page I used a different picture and again instead of cutting the model out and putting her on to a blank page i changed the opacity of the whole picture so it was a faded picture so i could put the words over the top and still be able to read all the text on the page. I also learnt how to use the Polygon Lasso tool to cut pictures out of backgrounds instead of just the quick selection tool which is a lot easier and quicker which helped me.
How have you used technology?
I used an Olympus camera to take all my pictures with. My practice shots, my front cover pictures and my contents page pictures. I used Photoshop to edit all my photos, I changed the contrast, brightness and saturation of my pictures on Photoshop to make them look brighter and more professional. I also changed the colour of my models eyes to enhance them and make them stand out on the page as well as making her teeth whiter and her skin look smoother, so it looked more like an actual magazine picture rather than just a picture i took and uploaded.
What conventions have you used and why?I used just about all of the main conventions of a magazine front cover, I did this to make it look as professional as possible and not just like a picture with some words over the top. I did this by looking at existing college magazines to get ideas of conventions, I also looked on my old blog from last year to get ideas from my magazine last year and to see any old notes about conventions.
My masthead is bold and bright to stand out and catch the eye of the 'audience'
I tried to put on as many feature stories as i could to make it look full and to fill up as much white space as i possibly could, i learnt from my mistakes last year as my college magazine last year was very empty and didn't look exciting at all so i tired to change that and make it different from last year.
I put a plug on with an advert to win a dance top to appeal to my audience since the magazine is a dance edition.
