Johnny Depp (captain Jack Sparrow) face is the largest face on the poster, its also in the middle, because hes the main character in the film people normally associate him with this film in particular. By making his face the most dominant it informs the audience that he is the most important character.    Then Geoffrey Rush and Orlando Bloom the next main characters  and Kira Knightley the smallest picture meaning she is still a main character but not as important as the other 3 men. Which could also connote the idea of men being more dominant than females especially when associated with pirates because pirates are thought to be men and more masculine characters.
The main background colour is black, associated with danger and death, which pirates are also associated with, also pirate flags have a black background.
The very bottom is a picture of the sea which looks rough and violent representing danger again. with a pirate ship, again associated with pirates. With dark clouds and a large moon above the pirate ship making it look spooky and scary, which is the main theme of the film.
The title of the film is written in old fashioned font to represent that its about pirates from a long time ago. The title is written on a scroll like what pirates map would be on, there is also a skull and cross bones in the middle of a pirates flag all linking in with the theme of pirates.
Johnny Depp has a red head scarf on which pirates would normally wear, the skull on the title is also wearing a red head scarf linking the two together.
The name of the film company Disney is in yellow so it stands out and contrasts against the black background. Its at the top of the poster so people can see it easily and instantly recognise it is a film produced by Disney because it is a well known company.
